8-Day Jewish Heritage Tour in Tunisia Details

Jews have lived in Tunisia for well over two thousand years, and the traces are still here to be visited.

On Djerba you reach El Ghriba, among the oldest synagogues in continuous use anywhere, and walk the lanes of Hara Kbira where the community still lives. In Tunis there are the synagogues and quarters of the modern city, and inland at Testour a town founded by Andalusian exiles whose minaret carries a clock that runs backwards.

The route also takes in the cemeteries and pilgrimage sites, and the ordinary places — bakeries, workshops, doorways — that say more about coexistence than any monument.

Priced per trip, and run with guides who know the communities rather than only the buildings.
